Taiz Plastic Surgery Camp 24-27th October 2009

Seventeen patients attended the Plastic surgery camp at Taiz Karama hospital. The patients presented with difficult cleft lip and palate conditions, burn scars, badly repaired clefts, nasal deformities, paralytic ptosis of the eye, benign vascular tumor of the face, and bad scars after trauma.
 

Twelve patients were successfully operated over a three day period. Some of the patients were asked to come back after six months for follow up corrective surgery. Cleft lip and aesthetic procedures for the face were demonstrated to some local surgeons who attended the camp. One of the surgeons was also allowed to join the hands on training for cleft lip surgery.
 

A training CD manual was given to the surgeons to help them understand the principles of cleft lip and palate surgery.

Special thanks to the local medical team for the excellent management and hard work. All the patients did well postoperatively.
