Socotra Plastic Surgery Camp, October 2 - 8 2009

Over one hundred and fourteen patients registered for the Socotra Plastic surgery camp this month.Many of them had deformities because of burns,trauma,cleft lip and palate,eyelid and ear deformities.

The patients were investigated and cleared for surgery for Drs. Wahen Ton, and Bona. Fifty three of them were operated successfully and the rest were asked to return for the follow up camp in early February 2010.

All the camp arrangements were made by Dr.Muasaleem,Dr.Saad Qaadoomi and the local staff of Hadibo hospital.

A hi tech patient monitor was presented to the hospital operation theatre from the US embassy fundraiser event.

Socotra patients continue to suffer because of the poor infrastructure and absence of specialist medical care on the island.

Most of our patients were anemic and not fit for general anesthesia.There are no vegetables and fruits on the island.

The medical needs on this island are tremendous and more support is needed in future for such camps in Socotra.
