A cleft and craniofacial camp was conducted
at the Taiz Karama hospital. Dr.Yasser Hameed from Baghdad, Dr.Mohammed Khan from
Uzbekistan and Dr. Brendan from Chicago helped with the planning
and support of the cleft and craniofacial patients who came to Taiz
from far away villages.
Twenty nine cleft and craniofacial patients
were screened during the two and a half day consultation. Some of
the patients had very severe craniofacial defects (fibrous dysplasia,
Hemifacial microsomia, jaw defects, multiple clefts) and would
require more advanced care later .Twelve cleft lip patients were
successfully operated upon by the Yemen Smile charity team.
